BLANCHING
The face loses colour, becoming visibly paler than the resting state.
Severe shock, fear, or sudden bad news. Blood is being redirected from the skin to the muscles.
Less common than flushing but more clinically significant. The body is preparing for flight. Often paired with a momentary loss of muscle tone in the face. Note: blanching is a medical sign as well as an emotional one — sustained pallor warrants concern.
Ambient lighting changes.
