The mouth falls slightly open, often with a brief loss of muscle tone in the lower face.
Surprise, shock, or processing of unexpected information.
A momentary jaw drop is a clean surprise reaction. A sustained open mouth, especially with raised eyebrows, is processing — the brain has stalled. Useful to watch for during pitches and explanations: you have lost the listener.
A yawn, which involves the whole face and a deep inhale.
