LIP BITE

The lower lip is drawn under the upper teeth and held briefly.

MEANS

Uncertainty or self-restraint. The person is holding something back from themselves as much as from you.

CONTEXT

Often appears in people who are unsure how to respond, or who are stopping themselves from saying something. The bite is brief — anything longer is a deliberate gesture and should be read differently.

NOT

Habitual lip-chewing, which is a self-soothing tic and not response-specific.
