ARM BAR

One arm reaches across the body to touch, hold, or grip the opposite arm, sleeve, or wrist.

MEANS

Self-protection or anxiety. A more subtle version of arm crossing.

CONTEXT

Common in people who feel exposed but do not want to appear defensive. The arm bar provides the same protection without the obvious cross. Common in formal photographs and on stage. Often hidden by adjusting a watch or sleeve.

NOT

Reaching for an object across the body.
