LIP PURSE

The lips push outward and tighten, forming a small pucker.

MEANS

Disagreement. The person is forming a counter-argument in their head, even if they have not spoken.

CONTEXT

Distinct from lip compression: pursing means “I disagree,” compression means “I am not saying what I think.” Very useful in meetings. A pursing colleague is about to push back. Address it before the conversation moves on, or it will return as resistance later.

NOT

Lip compression, which is a horizontal press, not an outward push.
