The lower eyelid lifts and tightens, narrowing the eye from below without closing it.
MEANS
Suspicion, doubt, or careful attention.
CONTEXT
A subtler signal than a squint. Often appears for a fraction of a second when someone hears something they question. A useful early-warning signal in negotiation. Habitual lower-lid tightening produces visible lower-eyelid wrinkles.
NOT
A smile, which also raises the lower lid but is paired with raised cheeks.
