SUBTLE SHAKE

Small, often unconscious lateral head movements during another person’s speech, or one’s own.

MEANS

Disagreement, even when the words are agreeing.

CONTEXT

One of the most useful signals in negotiation. A small shake while saying “yes” means “no.” When you see it during your own pitch, the listener has not bought in. Address the disagreement directly before continuing.

NOT

A response to neck stiffness or an itch.
