The muscles below the eyes lift the cheeks, producing crow’s feet at the outer eye corners.
Genuine pleasure. The signature of a Duchenne smile, but can appear without the mouth lifting.
Look at the cheeks before the mouth to read a smile’s honesty. A smile with raised cheeks is felt; a smile without is performed. The same cheek lift appears during real amusement, even when the mouth is closed.
