HAND WRINGING
One hand clasps and rubs the other, repeatedly, often in the lap or in front of the body.
High stress or anxiety. A strong pacifying behaviour.
The repetition is the signal. A single rub means little. A repeated, rhythmic wringing means the person is actively managing distress. Often paired with foot bouncing or lip compression. Note the trigger.
Cold-hand warming, which is brief and stops once heat is restored.
