KNEE CLAMP

Both hands rest on the knees and grip them firmly. The arms are often straight, ready to push up.

MEANS

A leave-taking signal. The body is preparing to stand.

CONTEXT

One of the cleanest “we’re done” cues. The hands move to the knees before the legs do anything. A signal to wrap up — the other person is ready to leave whether they have said so or not.

NOT

A casual rest of the hands on the lap.
