VOCAL FRY
The voice drops into a low, creaky register, particularly at the ends of words.
Often nothing. A common habitual speech pattern, especially in younger English speakers.
Popular commentary treats vocal fry as a sign of disinterest or low confidence. The evidence does not support this strongly. Treat as a baseline speech pattern unless it appears suddenly — a shift into fry mid-conversation may signal fatigue or boredom.
Anything reliable in isolation.
